TRAVERSE CITY - Richard Lee Larson, 70, of Traverse City, passed away Wednesday.

Richard was born in Flint on March 6, 1930, the son of the late Harry and Beatrice (Price) Larson. He lived in Traverse City since 1970.

Richard was a Grand Blanc High School graduate, class of 1948. He served in the U.S. Navy for four years during the Korean War. He was a soil scientist with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, retiring in 1979. Richard was a member of the Central United Methodist Church in Traverse City and supported the Boy Scouts of America. He loved camping, boating, yoga, reading, gardening, beaches, skiing and nature.

He is survived by two daughters, Major Laura Larson of the U.S. Air Force, Beavercreek, Ohio and Mia (Thomas) Harrigan of Traverse City; three granddaughters, Bethany, Jessica and Kristen; three brothers, Kenneth James (Toni) Larson of Fife Lake, Harry Bruce Larson of Holly and Donald Thomas (Martha) Larson of Houston, Texas; two sisters, Gail (Peter) Hutchinson and Cathy (Thomas) Skellett - all of Flint; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a former wife, Doris (Moody) Larson; two daughters, Lisa and Lynn; one son, Larry; and a grandson, Jacob.


Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Hill Funeral Home, 11723 S. Saginaw St. in Grand Blanc. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Pastor Dean Bailey officiating. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery, where a graveside military salute and flag presentation will be performed by the Flint VFW Post No. 822.
