Ted R. Baase 1930-1993

Ted R. Baase, 63, a former Old Kent Bank employee, died Dec 24 at Birchwood Nusing Center after a long illness. He worked in administrative services and security at Old Kent Bank, where he was employed 15 years. A Garfield Township resident, he had lived in the area since 1953, when he moved from Saginaw. Earlier he had worked at Wicksall Distributors.

A member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, he served as the chairman of Crop Walk for Church World Services and volunteered for Bread for the World for several years. Also a member of the Traverse City Eagles Aerie No. 383 and the Cherryland Beagle Club, he enjoyed hunting and fishing.


A Korean War veteran, he was a staff sergeant wit the U. S. Air Force Strategic Air Command, serving with the 97th Bomb Wing of the 340th Bomb Squadron.

Born September 15 1930, in Saginaw, he was the son of Harold "Bud" and Sylvia L. (Hoffman) Baase. On December 1st 1956, in Traverse City, he married Kathleen "Kay" Arnold, who survives.

Also surviving are three daughters, Susan L. Edmonds and Mrs. Dale (Pamela M.) Benton, both of Kingsley, and Patricia A. Baase of Fort Myers, Florida; four grandchildren, Lyndsey Kay Edmonds Logan Lee Benton, Lexie Kathleen Benton and Lisa Manville; three sisters, Mrs. Clarence (Marcia) Wazny and Bernice Brown, both of Saginaw; and Mrs. Richard (Gladys) Hartley of Bay City; and three brothers, all of Saginaw; Raymond (Rita) Baase, Richard (Connie) Baase and Robert (Mary) Baase.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jerry L. Baase.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan 8th 1994 at Bethelehem Lutheran Church in Traverse City. The Rev. Dr. David Gabel willl officiate. Cremation has taken place. Friends may visit at the time of the services. Memorials may be given to the church, Grand Traverse Area Hospice or Diabetes Association
