Walter J. Younglas


TRAVERSE CITY - Walter J. Younglas, 77, of Traverse City, died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2005. He was born March 19, 1927, in Sault Saint Marie, to Peter and Elfia (DeTour) Younglas. He married Lucille Korson on May 17, 1952, at St. Wenceslaus Church in Gills Pier.

Walter graduated from St. Francis High School in 1946. He had been a resident of Traverse City since 1927, and was employed with Cherryland Electric for 28 years. He also worked as a cost accountant.

He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War.

Walter is survived by eight sisters-in-law, Mrs. Clarence (Julia) Rieger of Traverse City, Miss Philomena Korson of Grand Rapids, Mrs. John (Bernadine) Gallagher Sr. of Cedar, Mrs. John (Catherine) McLenithan of Rapid River, Mrs. Gary (Emma) Gallagher of Traverse City, Mrs. Ray (Helen) Galla of Lake Leelanau, Mrs. Thomas (Magdalen) Gavin of Grand Rapids and Miss Ann Korson of Grand Rapids; three brothers-in-law, Philip (Joan) Korson of Lake Leelanau, Martin (Phyllis) Korson of Suttons Bay and Sylvester (Marie) Korson of Suttons Bay; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held today, Feb. 25, 2005, at the Covell Funeral Home in Traverse City, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., with a rosary to be prayed at 7:30 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held Saturday, Feb. 26, 2005, at 11 a.m., at St. Francis Catholic Church in Traverse City. Burial will take place at Oakwood Cemetery.
